Carwan Gallery was founded in 2010 by Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte and Pascale Wakim. Based in Beirut, it’s exhibitions of bespoke projects and limited-edition objects have helped internationalise design in the region.
With special focus on strong cultural connections, the gallery brings to GUILD works from Mary-Lynn and Carlo Massoud. The siblings are working together in collaboration for the first time, having been invited by Carwan Gallery to combine their creativity and backgrounds, to give life to a project that links design, intended as a method, and art understood as an approach to the matter.
The Massoud’s travelled to Cape town to produce this collection in collaboration with Otto Du Plessis of Bronze Age Foundry and with ceramics by Andile Dyalvane of Imiso.
The work, titled ‘Autopsy’ was inspired by the symbolic forces of African fertility dolls.
